Comma vs Meta Muse: Where the agent works

Both give the agent a computer of its own in the cloud, so the work goes on while your phone is off.

Muse runs each person's agent on a persistent, isolated virtual machine in Meta's cloud, with a browser that you and the agent share. On a Mac, Muse can work in local apps such as Mail and Calendar once you allow it.

Comma gives each Workspace a cloud computer that starts when a Task needs it and stops a few minutes after the work ends. Between Tasks, small programs called Loops watch your inbox, repositories and feeds, and wake the agent only when something needs it. On your Mac, Comma starts read-only and does more only after you turn on Allow operations.

Comma
A cloud computer for each Workspace, Loops that watch 24/7, and your Mac read-only until you allow more.
Muse
A persistent virtual machine in Meta's cloud for each person, and your Mac with your permission.

Comma vs Meta Muse: How work gets done

Muse plans a goal and carries it out from the app. Comma turns each request into a Task that you can follow until it is done.

Muse plans multi-step work, runs scheduled tasks, makes suggestions without being asked, and checks with you before sensitive actions. At checkout it pays with one-time card numbers.

In Comma, a bigger request becomes a Task on a board with three columns: In progress, Needs Review and Done. Comma checks its own work and moves the card itself, and a decision that is yours waits in Needs Review. Before your day starts, Routines lists what needs you in each app, and Comma messages you first when something needs you now.

Comma vs Meta Muse: Models

Muse runs on Meta's own model. Comma lets you choose.

Muse uses Muse Spark, a model from Meta Superintelligence Labs. Meta has not published Muse Spark's weights.

Comma uses its own models by default. You can bring your own API key, use your ChatGPT or Claude plan, choose a model for each role, or let Codex or Claude Code do the work on a computer you connect. Model calls through your own key or plan use no Comma credits.

Comma vs Meta Muse: Privacy and ownership

Muse keeps your agent and its data in Meta's cloud. Comma can run wherever you choose.

Muse needs a Meta account. Its privacy policy says Meta uses your interactions with Muse to train its models unless you turn this off, and Meta says your conversations stay out of its ad systems. When your Facebook, Instagram or Threads account shares Accounts Center with Muse, those apps connect to it. Muse is a closed app, and its terms forbid reverse engineering.

Comma does not use your files, conversations or prompts to train AI models, and it does not sell your personal data. Connected apps get scoped access that you can revoke. Comma is open source under AGPL-3.0, and a self-hosted Comma keeps your Tasks, chats and files in your own databases and sends model calls to the provider you set.

Comma
No training on your content; open source, and free to self-host.
Muse
Training on by default with an off switch; closed source, in Meta's cloud only.

FAQs

Is Comma a good alternative to Meta Muse?

If you want an agent you can own, yes. Like Muse, Comma works around the clock on a cloud computer of its own. Unlike Muse, it is open source under AGPL-3.0, lets you choose the model, and can run on a server you manage.

Do I need a Meta account to use Comma?

No. You sign in to Comma with your email address and a code. A self-hosted instance signs you in the same way, and needs no Comma account at all.

Which models can Comma use?

Comma uses its own models by default. You can also bring your own API key, or your ChatGPT or Claude plan, and choose a model for each role. On a self-hosted Comma, you set one model for the whole instance, or each person adds a private model.

Does Comma train AI models on my data?

No. Comma does not use your files, conversations or prompts to train its own or third-party general-purpose AI models, and it does not sell your personal data.

How do the prices compare?

Comma's Free plan costs US$0 with unlimited chat, and Pro adds credits for heavier use. Muse is free up to a usage limit, and its paid plans are Power at US$20 and Max at US$100 a month. A self-hosted Comma costs nothing from Comma: you pay for your machine and your model calls.

Can I use Comma and Muse together?

Yes. They do not depend on each other. You might keep Muse for Meta's apps and use Comma for work in Slack, GitHub, Linear or Notion, or on your Mac.
